Did you know? 22,000 women lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
At the same time, the government’s economic response to COVID-19 has been to invest in building, construction and infrastructure. This has led to a shortage of skilled workers to meet the needs of these projects.
At the moment, only 2.6% of tradespeople are women but over 80% of the employers who took the Trade Careers survey are keen to employ women. That’s a BIG opportunity!
Even better — if you’re ready to skill up, there’s free trades training available until December 2022 via the government’s Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund.
Trades employers want to talk to women. Women want to talk to trades employers. But everyone is unsure about taking the first step.
Join Kura and Dave as they go on a journey to get it right for women on site.
The future is now, let’s get into it.
Over 2000 women completed the Trade Careers survey. Here’s what they wanted to know about a career in the trades:
- How do I get a ‘foot in the door’?
- What is a worksite is really like?
- Which of my skills are transferable to the trades?
- How do I find out which trade is best for me?
- What’s the likelihood of having a good supportive boss?
Knowledge is power and wāhine who already work in the trades want you to have it. They gave us the lowdown on what it is really like.
